about the venue: Bookman Books

no photo available

Bookman has just recently moved to this new, larger location. They've got a much wider selection of books than before and are laid out in a fairly easy to find manner.

Most of the books here are English, making it one of the largest collections of English books in town.

about the venue: Aroma Cafe

This is a nice little coffeeshop with good coffee and some tasty sandwiches and desserts. I like the patio outside and it's on a relatively quiet little street.

Also they play some pretty good music here. My only complaint is that it can get a little crowded when it's busy.

about the venue: Sweet Home Restaurant

no photo available

This restaurant has got some of the best Chinese food in Kaohsiung. Whenever I am craving some sweet and sour chicken this is where I go.

They've got a huge menu (in English) and the boss speaks really good English as well.

The decor could use some work, but they more than make up for it with the food.

about the venue: Garlic European Country Food

This is definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Kaohsiung. The chef has years of experience working in 5 star hotels in Taipei and it shows. The menu might seem a little pricey but there is a set menu that has some great food for a reasonable price.

Garlic has good food, good wine, and lots of garlic.

My understanding of how subbing in Taiwan works is that it is officially illegal and could lead to deportation.

However, the chances of getting caught are quite slim because you would need to be at the school when it got raided by the police. The schools tend to know ahead of time about the raids, and they generally only happen if someone has reported the school for hiring illegal teachers.

I have only heard of this happening to one person and he was a long term teacher at that school, not a short term sub.

I hope that answers your question.
